Lake Mary Police and SunRail Team Up for Railroad Crossing Safety Operation

Monday, November 16, 2015

Friday, November 13, 2015

Lake Mary – Lake Mary Police and the SunRail safety team are conducting a railroad crossing safety operation Wednesday, November 18 and Thursday, November 19 along Lake Mary Boulevard. The purpose is to remind motorists not to stop on—or too close to—railroad tracks.

Wednesday, November 18 features an educational campaign by the Lake Mary Police Department and its Public Information Office as a precursor to enforcement, which occurs the next day. On Thursday, November 19 from approximately 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., Lake Mary Police are writing tickets to motorists stopping on railroad tracks—or stopping too close to them—along Lake Mary Boulevard. The Florida Statute is 316.1575. The fine is at least $206.

The SunRail safety team expects to conduct periodic railroad crossing enforcement operations with local law enforcement during the upcoming year, especially where SunRail trains are running—32 miles from DeBary in Volusia County to Sand Lake Road in Orange County.

SunRail urges you to stay back from the tracks and always look for a second train. Be smart. Be safe.
