SunRail Emergency Simulation This Thursday – Passersby Might See Activity Near Donegan Avenue, Kissimmee

Kissimmee – SunRail is participating in an emergency exercise this Thursday, June 21, along the railroad tracks north of Donegan Avenue, from approximately 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event will simulate an emergency, where the train has come to a stop, and passengers are transferred to a bus, which takes them to the Tupperware Station.

This bus bridge exercise is meant to benefit SunRail crews, LYNX bus service providers, as well as emergency responders in the southern expansion area, where new service is beginning July 30. In the event of an emergency where SunRail trains could not run, buses will have to shuttle passengers between stations. About 12 to 15 volunteers are participating.

Passersby are urged to stay back for safety reasons.

A reminder for media choosing to cover this from the scene; stay off the railroad tracks and stay back at least 25 feet from the railroad right of way. These are long-standing safety rules that have been in place even before SunRail began running in 2014.

SunRail currently runs 32-mile daily service, stopping at 12 stations, Monday through Friday, from the DeBary Station in Volusia County to the Sand Lake Road Station south of Orlando. For more information about SunRail, including fares, station locations as well as schedule and hours of operation, please visit www.sunrail.com.

Please be careful around trains, railroad crossings, and while at station platforms. Be smart. Be safe.
