What: Central Florida’s rail safety landscape is fast-changing due to recent innovations, statewide directives, and planned initiatives. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is hosting a media availability at adjacent railroad crossings in Winter Park to speak with media and provide information about safety measures in place, along with completed, pending and future rail safety projects.
National Rail Safety Week (Sept. 19-23) – a week dedicated to reducing collisions, fatalities and injuries at rail crossings – provides an ideal platform to spotlight these projects. The two crossings highlighted during the availability are located at the New York Avenue/Lyman Avenue intersection and Fairbanks Avenue (east of Pennsylvania Avenue) in Winter Park – a three-minute walk from the event location along a paved pedestrian path.
